The Casio Exilim C721 is more than just a new phone for Verizon, it is also the newest entry Casio has put forth into the handset market in the United States.

It is making waves for one reason and one reason only: the camera. Unfortunately, by all available accounts and reviews, the camera is the only remarkable thing about the phone. I mean, come on, seriously. It is marketed as being a camera that just happens to be attached to a handset — what does that say to people?

And sure, the camera seems pretty awesome. It has a pivot, so it feels more like a digital camera. The camera is a 5.1 megapixel job. It has 3x optical zoom, plus a 2.3 inch viewfinder in the rear. It is supposed to be able to withstand shocks, water, high temperatures and wind.

But still, you know, it’s just a camera.
